Distech’s smart building technology allows us to offer flexible, Wi-Fi-enabled systems that support energy savings, comfort and sustainability. This partnership strengthens our ability to tailor solutions to each client and deliver future-ready building control.

Official opening of our new head office
In December 2018, we opened our new head office at 51 Bishopric, Horsham. After doubling in size over three years, the move gave us space to grow and a stronger platform to serve national clients. It also reinforced our visibility as a key player in the building controls sector, with support from local leaders Cllr Kate Rowbottom and Cllr Paul Clarke, alongside industry partners including Trend and Distech. Staying in Horsham aligned with our commitment to local investment, while the new office gave us the presence, facilities and brand confidence needed to scale. From this base, we continue to support clients like Coca-Cola, Huawei and the NHS with smart, connected building solutions.

Cyber Essential accredited
In 2017, Boss Controls became certified under the UK government’s Cyber Essentials Scheme, reinforcing our commitment to data security and resilience. As a business working with leading-edge Building Management System (BMS) technology, we must protect our systems, clients, and operations from cyber threats.
We made the decision not only to safeguard our infrastructure but to give our customers confidence that we meet recognised standards for cybersecurity. At the time, nearly half of all UK businesses reported cyber attacks or breaches with severe financial and operational impacts. Our certification demonstrates that we have essential controls to reduce risk and provide a strong foundation for secure, future-ready solutions.

Rebranded to Boss Controls
Following a management buyout, we rebranded to Boss Controls – Building Optimisation Systems and Services – with input from our customers, suppliers and team. The launch included new uniforms, signage and a refreshed website. Horsham District Council’s Chairman, Cllr Christian Mitchell, officially opened the rebrand, praising our contribution to the local economy. It marked a new chapter, rooted in our commitment to smart building control and sustainable growth.

Achieved ISO 9001 certification
In 2016, we formalised the way we worked by developing a clear set of procedures to support consistent quality across the business. This led to Boss Controls achieving ISO 9001 certification through BM TRADA — a recognised mark of strong management systems. It was a proud milestone that gave clients extra confidence in how we deliver our work, from first enquiry to final handover.

Created CSR strategy and core values
We developed our Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, choosing WWF as our habitat partner and supporting Adélie penguin conservation as a symbol of our environmental commitment. This year also marked the start of our team values; communicate, respect, empower, balance, learn, which continue to guide how we work together and with our clients.

Moved to Horsham Park office
