Mark Berwick, Managing Director
I’ve worked in the Building Management Systems & Electrical industry for the past 25 years. I founded what became Boss Controls Ltd in 2010 with a belief that there was a huge opportunity to provide clients with a whole host of value-added services over and above was being offered at the time. This has certainly proved to be the case over the years, and we now have circa 35 employees looking after some of the most prestigious sites in the UK.
There is never a dull day working in this industry. We are at the forefront of innovation and there is always a stream of new products that we can utilise to help our clients save energy, reduce carbon emissions and better manage the heating, cooling, ventilation, energy, lighting or occupancy levels with their space. We work in a variety of different market sectors from Universities, Schools Hospitals, Film Studios, Leisure Centres, Galleries, Museums and Offices. The products and services we install provide our clients with a comprehensive range of information about how they can better utilise their space and be more cost effective. In the post Covid era, where flexible working patterns are now commonplace, our clients need us more than ever to help them provide a healthy, safe and environmentally conscious building for their occupants.
Since starting Boss Controls Ltd, I have had the honour of working with many great individuals and have been part of building an amazing team of talented people. My role as the Company Director continues to evolve to ensure we keep attracting world-class talent, adding value to our customers, and inspiring our team to develop market leading solutions, resulting in a first-class service delivery.
Outside of work, I enjoy exploring new cultures. Memorable journeys have taken me to places like India and, more recently, Singapore. On a personal note, I’m a proud parent to two teenagers who never cease to inspire and fascinate me. Their growth and curiosity serve as a constant reminder of why I’m so committed to creating a sustainable future in the industry I love.
Sophie Coppeard, Operations Director
As Operations Director at Boss Controls Ltd, my role is to ensure the efficiency, quality, and strategic alignment of our business’s operational aspects. Our high-performing teams share the desire to deliver excellent services and solutions to clients that not only meet their diverse needs but also exceed expectations.
I am inspired by the positive, tangible and conscientious impact of our service offerings and this informs how I lead the operational teams to deliver the most effective solutions for our customers, accelerating our shared internal successes by driving continuous improvement and, in turn, delivering BMS successes for our client base.
While I was linked to the company for some time before my appointment as Operations Director, I am thrilled to be part of the skilled and growing team of excellent individuals at Boss Controls Ltd, learning from them to align our people and processes. I am incredibly optimistic about the future of our industry and organisation. I am excited by what can be achieved through innovative, trusted in-house partnerships and with our customers.
Nothing makes me happier outside of work than spending time with my husband and two children by the sea, making beach outings a cherished part of our lives. The end of each week is often celebrated at home, featuring a kitchen disco with the kids, dancing our way into the weekend, traditionally with a pancake-fuelled start to a Saturday. Having meaningful relationships is a huge motivator for me, and I’m grateful for the connections I have and the opportunities ahead, both personally and professionally.

Richard Dewdney, Sales Director
I’ve been part of the Building Management Systems (BMS) industry since 1998, starting my career at Trend. I began working in the factory and quickly moved on to their apprenticeship scheme, allowing me to explore every business area. From working as an engineer to leading service teams across London and the South, I’ve gained experience in technical support, managing remote teams, and sales. This hands-on journey has shaped my understanding of the industry from the ground up and has enabled me to understand the full potential of innovation, for example, significantly improving wellbeing.
Wireless technology and IoT evolution have been BMS’s game-changers, and I’ve loved being part of that transformation. It’s incredible how the technology now allows us to monitor almost anything in a building without costly infrastructure. From carbon emissions to car park spaces, the possibilities are endless, and it’s exciting to help our clients see what’s possible and implement solutions that make a real difference.
Joining Boss Controls felt like a natural progression. I’ve known the company since its early days, and Mark’s vision aligns perfectly with my ambitions for the industry. Everything I’ve done in my career has led me here, and I’m proud to be part of such a forward-thinking team.
Outside of work, I enjoy fishing and playing bar billiards, but my greatest joy comes from spending time with my family. My two boys bring energy and fun into every day and remind me of the importance of creating a better future for the next generation.
