Working with Boss Controls

We are searching for a driven, enthusiastic apprentice to join our team who shares our values and is passionate about innovation. Someone willing and ready to apply themselves to our apprenticeship scheme to learn and develop the technical knowledge required to work in the BMS industry. Working alongside our team of Engineers and office staff, you will learn and develop the skills to provide the scheduled service of client BMS systems, including onsite planned preventative maintenance, panel modifications as required, offsite technical support, system hardware testing, innovate new software applications, and emergency call out service on a rotational basis. On completion of your work, you will provide client reports in a timely manner detailing service works or client callouts.

To be successful as an apprentice, you must have great time management skills and be willing to assist wherever possible. Outstanding apprentices are those who respond well to criticism, build good relationships with colleagues, and ultimately make a lasting impression.

General Duties & Responsibilities of the Role

  • Scheduled servicing of client BMS system (on-site)
  • Planned preventative maintenance of client systems
  • Provide second line technical support to clients (off-site)
  • Provide emergency callouts on a rotational basis
  • Carry out system hardware testing as required
  • Innovating new software applications whilst onsite as required
  • Provide client reports in a timely manner detailing service works or client callouts
  • Carry out panel modifications onsite as required.

System Builds/Commissioning

  • Build system software based on predefined points lists and wiring diagrams
  • Produce graphics from our software library
  • Working with client and our IT specialists to setup connection to new sites
  • Assist field engineers in commissioning the software in readiness for client handover
  • Make any configural changes to ensure the software matches the ‘as installed’ requirements
  • Update internal and client facing reports (ensuring reports are completed checked and validated in a timely manner).

Collaboration, Training & Development

  • Training and mentoring apprentice engineers
  • Encouraging and supporting employees to develop their skills, behaviours, and capabilities
  • Working alongside Technical Managers for advanced training
  • Trend, Distech and Tridium product training as product updates emerge.

Other Responsibilities & Duties

  • Surveying client sites and systems with the view to scoping Energy Management
  • In hours call-outs and breakdowns when required – show confidence in attending all call-outs and show resolutions
  • Update internal and client facing reports in line with company expectations (ensuring reports are completed, checked and validated in a timely manner).

Skills and Experience

  • BMS servicing of Trend, Tridium or Distech: 2 years required
  • Full/clean driving licence
  • Knowledge of Tier 1 system (Trend) IT packages
  • Prior experience of Trend and Tridium
  • Trend and/or Tridium (certification)
  • Electrical or HVAC: 2 years (preferred)
  • Fantastic communication skills both verbally and written
  • Ability to build rapport with clients and offer exceptional customer service
  • Adapts style and approach in relation to different situations and the level of capability of others
  • Ability to work autonomously and/or as part of a team
  • Shows integrity, objectivity, and consistency in decision-making
  • Willing to travel.

Working Pattern

  • The role is primarily field based with shifts running from 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday
  • The company operates a 24/7 service Monday to Sunday and all service staff are required to undertake on call duties on a rotational basis
  • Overtime and weekend work available.

    • Delivery of engineering and commissioning work
    • Engineering of Trend, Tridium & Distech Systems
    • Carry out panel modifications on site as required (small project works/service jobs)
    • Communicating with Project Manager to update project developments, on a daily basis
    • Providing project updates to line manager and project managers as well as the client
    • Organise and report on works as per project plans
    • Project engineer support – 1st line of contact on Boss Controls projects
    • Building and maintaining relationships with new and existing clients, recognising new opportunities
    • Proactively managing expectations
    • Promoting all services and solutions on offer to new and existing clients
    • Identify and log any faults or issues during liability and warranty periods
    • Engineer of supervisor graphics and IT packages for clients
